Menopause & Your Libido
We found a great article about menopause and libido.
From the article…
Hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, fatigue and crankiness. Menopause can be a mood killer and it surely can make any woman feel less than sexy. In fact, up to 40% of women lose the desire for intimacy during menopause. On top of the menopause symptoms, sex simply isn’t on your mind as much as it used to be, leaving you out of touch with your sensual self.
But the reality is that sex improves longevity, quality of life, and overall health. Menopausal sex without the fear of pregnancy, the mess of the monthly cycle, or young children knocking at the bedroom door can be a spontaneous and joyful part of the second half of life. You just need to find out how to make that happen!
Balancing your hormones can help.
The use of bioidentical hormones, hormones that are exact copies of hormones naturally produced by the body, can be very effective at returning the vigor and sex drive of youth.
Dr. Shinn of Adonis Cosmetic Surgery & Spa in Pueblo, CO provides Hormone Replacement Therapy by Pellet Implantation. Pellets are superior to any other form (oral, sublingual, cream, gel, or injection) due to their gradual and consistent release of the hormone.

Happy 52nd Birthday Ken!
Ken, Barbie’s long-term boyfriend, debuted on the set of a TV commercial on March 13, 1961.
That means Ken is 52 years old.
If Ken was a real 52 year old man, he could be experiencing some signs of “getting old.”
Tiring easily. Mood swings. Irritability. Lost muscle tone. Decreased sex drive.
To Dr. Rina Shinn of Adonis Cosmetic Surgery & Spa, however, these symptoms simply point to a “hormonal imbalance.”
In both men and women, testosterone levels start to decline after the age of 25. This tends to culminate in what is called menopause (women) and andropause (men).
After a simple saliva test and consultation, Dr. Shinn implants small pellets to deliver consistent, healthy levels of hormones.

Celebrate National Sleep Awareness Week: Get Your Hormones Checked
Quality sleep makes you feel better, but its importance goes way beyond just boosting your mood or banishing under-eye circles. Adequate sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle, and can benefit your heart, weight, mind, and more.
Some health benefits researchers have discovered about a good night’s sleep are improved memory, longevity, reducing inflammation, spur creativity, enhance cognitive performance, improve attention, weight control and steering clear of depression and anxiety.
Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder in the U.S., affecting nearly one out of every three adults at some point in life. More women suffer from insomnia than men.
When sleep is disrupted or inadequate, it can lead to increased tension, and irritability. Poor sleep can lead to fatigue. With fatigue, you exercise less and that leads to a decline in your fitness level. Eventually, you find yourself in a vicious cycle of inactivity and disturbed sleep, which causes both physical and mood-related symptoms.
One Tip For Achieving Better Sleep: Check your hormones.
A hormonal imbalance can affect your sleep.
- Dr. Rina Shinn of Adonis Aesthetics in Pueblo, CO is the first and only physician to provide Hormone Replacement Therapy by Pellet Implantation.
- Pellets deliver consistent, healthy levels of hormones for 3-4 months in women and 4-5 months in men.
- Dr. Shinn provides a simple saliva or blood test to check imbalances.
- Insertion of pellets is a simple (only 2 – 5 minutes required), relatively painless procedure done under local anesthesia.
- These tic-tac size Pellets are superior to any other form (oral, sublingual, cream, gel, or injection) due to their gradual and consistent release of the hormones.

How is your Valentine’s Day going?
Unless you are a teenager who is freshly in love, it is hard not to get cynical on Valentine’s Day. Heart-shaped cards along with “flowers, chocolates, promises you don’t intend to keep” clog the day and the rampant commercialism blurs the supposedly original intent of the day, which was to celebrate courtly love or any romantic love.
When was the last time you were truly in love or felt romantically inclined? Even if you are already in a relationship (married or otherwise), it is rare to experience that “in love” feeling.
It is often said that women have sex in between the ears. But it is similar for men as well. There is nothing more seductive than the adoring eyes of a woman who seems to think that you are the best thing in the world – most handsome, gentle, considerate, manly, etc.
Same goes for women. A woman may be ticked off by a man’s display of sexual prowess, status, or looks but would swoon for a man who looks at you with tender eyes that say that you are the most desired one in the world.
When we are in love, we want to spend a lot of time with the loved one, get to know the person, and do things for him/her that are pleasing to them. All these acts of love require energy and time. In order to give our loved ones that deep attention and signs of love, we have to be in a fit shape first.
When we are constantly tired, forever behind the chores/to-do lists (either at work or at home), and mostly irritated due to lack of sleep and increasing stress, it is nearly impossible to spare the time and energy to be “in love” with others.
But any amount of candies or flowers won’t replace the true signs of love that we so crave.
So, check your own health first.
Are you, by any chance, suffering from the hormone deficiencies that might be the cause of all the symptoms that I listed above? There is a high probability that you would benefit from getting your hormone levels checked and have your hormones properly balanced, if you are over 35.
We all experience less hormone production as we age, but if you insist on doing more work and flog your body more when your own native hormone levels are low, you will experience hormone deficient symptoms such as fatigue, irritability, insomnia, difficulty losing weight, memory fog, as well as hot flashes and loss of libido.
Once you have your hormone balanced and replaced, you will recover from any symptoms that might have been due to hormone insufficiency. And you will most likely regain your old composure and generosity of time and energy that is required for falling in love.
So, go get your hormone balanced and plan on falling in love all over again with your loved one. Then suddenly you wouldn’t get so cynical on the Valentine’s Day.

“Both prog
rams have helped tremendously!!!!!
My mind is right with now that my hormones are balanced, which makes it easier to do the exercise part and take responsibility for my actions.
I started running over the summer which really kick started my weight loss. I run 1.8 miles 3-4 times a week.
As far as eating habits I make sure I drink my water….I don’t order soda or tea at meals nor do I buy it.
I make choices of salads and such as opposed to burgers and fatty items, after all it is my choice
.
I always use a small plate. If big plates are pulled, I put mine away and pull a small plate.
I don’t have to reward myself with food. I reward in other ways, even if it’s buying new underwear.
I’ve learned that everyone has something about them they don’t like and want to fix. Nobody is perfect.
I like working with Adonis patients who see success because it turns them into people who are more confident and have more pride than they ever did before.
I see people go from “frumpy” to “wow” because they are so proud of themselves.”

Want To Meet That New Year’s Resolution? Get Your Hormones Checked
Most people’s New Year’s resolution list has some form of health related items,
according to surveys. Whether it is for weight loss, better fitness, or cessation of smoking/drinking, most people acknowledge that there is room for improvement in their health.
One key secret for improving or maintaining your health is, however, not likely on the list.
The secret to weight control, improved cardiovascular health, better muscle tone, increased energy, clearer memory, stronger immune system, and balanced mood is bio-identical hormone replacement.
Without the proper amounts of hormone, the biological system of human body cannot perform to its optimal level.
Or alternatively, we can continue living with the naturally diminished hormone level and adjust our activities to suit our hormone-driven functional level: i.e. sit in the corner and play an old person, complain about all sorts of aches and difficulties with bodily function, and be afraid of getting sick since recovery will be prolonged and complicated.
More and more people are pushing themselves harder than before in their mature years. Demanding such higher level of performance when the hormone level itself tells you that you are closer to kicking the bucket creates all sorts of havoc.
But the constant fatigue, difficulty sleeping, lack of energy or motivation, depressed mood, irritability, diminished libido, weaker muscle tone, and difficulty losing weight don’t have to be tolerated. All of them are possible symptoms of androgen or adrenal deficiencies and can be reversed with hormone replacement.
I recall myself before my hormone therapy 4 years ago with horror. There I was, almost unrecognizable from my usual self. Although I maintained the public façade of a professional person, I was easily irritable and an emotional wreck, tearing without reason and feeling totally hopeless at times. The body weight was doggedly at the highest level and libido was none existent. Despite the incessant fatigue, restful sleep at night was near impossible. My life was running in black and white only and all the color was drained. The true joy, curiosity, or carefree fun of life was nowhere to be found. Only after hormone balancing did I realize how much I was missing out on life.
Is the hormone replacement panacea of life? Probably not, but it is definitely a necessary, if not sufficient step for one’s better health.
Ignoring the desperate need of hormone replacement while flogging yourself to achieve all the health goals will only frustrate you more. So be sure that hormone replacement makes it onto the top of your New Year’s resolution list for 2013.
Be a “Brand New You” In the New Year with Hormone Replacement Therapy!
Hormone deficiencies currently affect over 55 million women and men in the United States. Although menopause more well-known, men do experience andropause, which happens when their body reduces the production of androgens such as DHEA and testosterone.
If you’ve ever felt irritable, moody, fatigued, or experienced hot flashes, low libido, or a decrease in energy, bioidentical hormones may be something that help get you feeling more well-balanced before the new year.
Dr. Shinn of Adonis Cosmetic Surgery & Spa in Pueblo, CO provides Hormone Replacement Therapy by Pellet Implantation.
Pellets provide the body with continuous dosing, which means pellets can be released as your body needs them. It also is a hassle and mess-free way of receiving the correct amount of hormones you need.
Hormone Therapy has been shown to improve lethargy, depression, loss of libido, hot flashes, improve insomnia, sex drive, libido, night sweats, palpitations, headaches, irritability, depression, memory loss, aches, pains, bladder problems (incontinence), and vaginal dryness.
